Cengenitai Diaphragmatic Hernia
Johnson, Kit. G.

Abstract
1. Congenital diaphragmatic hernia is a condition in which the abdominal contents protrude into the thoracic cavity through a congenitally abnormal opening in the diaphragm.
2. Herniation through the foramen of Morgagni is the rarest occurrence of the congenital diaphragmatic hernias.
3. It occurs in most instances in later life and it causes no difficulty because the majority of cases, is asymptomatic or has mild symptoms.
4. We report a case of Morgagni hernia which causes a simple mechanical intestinal obstruction v and misdiagnosed as acute appendicitis with perforation.
5. Herniation through the foramen of Bochdalek is the most common type of congenital diaphragmatic hernia and is one of the situations requiring emergency operation in the newborn infant.
6. It occurs in early life in majority of cases and the acute respiratory distress symptom makes the patient emergent state and increase the mortality rate.
7. It is frequently associated gastrointestinal and cardiopulmonary anomalies including malrota-
Lion or malfisation of gut, congental heart disease and hypoplasia of lung, etc.
8. We report 4 cases of Bochdalek hernia, of which one had long history of the disease
without acute symptoms and only one had the hernial sac containing the stomach.
9. We report these cases, and review and discuss the literatures.
